My Personal Statement
Listen with Purpose. Lead with Vision.
Family medicine is at a pivotal moment. The challenges facing our patients, our physicians, and our profession require us to listen carefully, speak clearly, and lead with purpose.
Why I Am Running
Family medicine is not just my profession — it is my calling. For over three decades, I have had the privilege of walking alongside patients through the most vulnerable and triumphant moments of their lives. I have delivered babies, held the hands of the dying, managed chronic illness, and celebrated recoveries. That sacred relationship between a family physician and a patient is the foundation of everything I believe about healthcare.
But today, that relationship is under threat. Administrative burdens, inadequate reimbursement, workforce shortages, and a healthcare system that too often prioritizes volume over value are eroding the very core of what makes family medicine extraordinary. I am running for the AAFP Board of Directors because I refuse to accept that this is inevitable — and because I know that with the right leadership, we can change it.
My vision is an AAFP that is forward-thinking, courageous, and deeply connected to its members — an organization that listens to the voices of family physicians and turns what we hear into meaningful action.
I am not running to occupy a seat. I am running to use it. As your Board member, I will listen with purpose, lead with vision, advocate courageously, and never forget who we serve.
My Platform
My campaign is built on four pillars — each rooted in conversations I have had with members, patients, and colleagues across this country.
Strengthening Family Medicine's Voice
The AAFP must be the loudest, clearest, and most unified voice for family physicians in America. I will advocate relentlessly for fair reimbursement, protect our scope of practice, and ensure that family medicine's perspective shapes national health policy — not just responds to it. We must move from reactive to proactive, from the margins to the center of every healthcare conversation.
Health Equity & Community Advocacy
I have practiced in underserved communities. I have seen firsthand what it means when a patient cannot access a family physician — not because they don't want one, but because the system has failed them. Health equity is not a talking point for me; it is a lived reality. I will champion AAFP initiatives that close care gaps, address social determinants of health, and bring the full weight of our organization to the communities that need us most.
Physician Wellness & Workforce
We cannot pour from an empty cup. Physician burnout is a crisis — and it is not a personal failing; it is a systemic one. I will prioritize reducing administrative burden, advocate for mental health resources for physicians, and work to build a sustainable workforce pipeline that makes family medicine an attractive, fulfilling, and sustainable career for the next generation of doctors.
Listening to Members
The AAFP Board must reflect the full diversity of its membership — in background, geography, practice setting, and perspective. I will create meaningful, consistent channels for member input. I will show up — at chapter meetings, at residency programs, in rural communities and urban clinics — because leadership that doesn't listen isn't leadership at all. My campaign theme is not a slogan. It is a commitment.
The Road Ahead
My candidacy for the AAFP Board of Directors is the first step in a longer journey of service to this organization and to the specialty I love. I am committed to serving with integrity, transparency, and an unwavering focus on what is best for family physicians and the patients we serve.
I bring to this role not only my clinical experience and leadership record, but my deep belief that family medicine — practiced well, supported fully, and valued appropriately — is the single greatest lever we have to improve the health of this nation.
I am asking for your vote — and your trust. I will listen with purpose, lead with vision, advocate courageously, and never forget who we serve. I will not take either lightly.
"Family medicine is at a pivotal moment. I am ready to meet it — with purpose, with courage, and with every family physician in America standing beside me."
